Extractions

Complex

A complex extraction is a dental procedure performed when a tooth cannot be easily removed due to factors such as impaction, breakage, or abnormal positioning. This type of extraction often requires minor surgical techniques to carefully remove the tooth while preserving surrounding bone and gum tissue.

Tooth Extractions

At some point, certain dental conditions may require a complex tooth extraction—a procedure typically recommended when a tooth cannot be easily removed through a simple extraction. This may occur when the tooth is broken at the gum line, impacted, severely decayed, or surrounded by dense bone.

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, ensuring that the area is completely numb while the patient remains awake and comfortable. In cases where the extraction is more complicated or the patient experiences dental anxiety, sedation or general anesthesia may be used to ensure a painless and stress-free experience.

Complex extractions are carefully carried out by experienced dental professionals using advanced surgical techniques to safely remove the affected tooth while preserving surrounding bone and gum tissue for optimal healing and oral health.

Local Anaesthetic

For complex extractions, local anesthesia is first administered to completely numb the affected area, ensuring the patient feels no pain during the procedure. In some cases, sedation may also be provided to help patients stay calm and relaxed. The dentist then makes a small incision in the gum to access the tooth, which may be sectioned into smaller pieces for easier and safer removal. Throughout the process, patients may feel slight pressure but no discomfort, as the procedure is carefully performed to ensure both comfort and precision.

Intravenous Sedation

Ivory Dental offers intravenous sedation for patients who experience significant nervousness or require extensive procedures like oral surgery, implants, or wisdom tooth removal.

Our experienced visiting consultant anaesthetist administers sedation via an injection in the back of your hand, supplemented with oxygen for comfort. Throughout the procedure, you will enter a relaxed, sleep-like state while our team monitors your well-being closely. Upon completion of the treatment, you will awaken feeling refreshed, akin to having had a short nap.
In contrast to general anesthesia, sedation is safer and can be performed within our dental practice. You can return home directly afterward, although we advise having a companion accompany you. One of the advantages of sedation is its ability to provide a comfortable experience without memory of the dental procedure, effectively reducing anxiety associated with future visits.

Frequently Asked Question

How is a complex extraction different from a simple extraction?

A complex extraction involves surgical techniques to remove teeth that are broken, impacted, or difficult to access. Unlike a simple extraction, it may require making a small incision in the gum or sectioning the tooth to remove it safely and effectively.Invisalign First is designed specifically for young children, offering virtually invisible orthodontic treatment to address issues like tooth crowding, spacing, arch development, protrusions, and overall smile appearance. Unlike traditional appliances such as fixed or removable expanders, Invisalign First aligners can expand the jaws and move teeth simultaneously. This includes creating space for new permanent teeth and improving the alignment of front incisors.

Recovery typically takes about 5 to 7 days, depending on the complexity of the procedure and individual healing. Swelling and mild discomfort may occur but usually subside within a few days. Following proper aftercare instructions helps speed up healing and prevents complications.
