Medisave For Dental
We recognize the importance of making dental care both accessible and affordable. That’s why we’re here to help you understand how to use your Medisave account for eligible dental treatments. Medisave, an essential part of Singapore’s healthcare savings system, can be applied to specific dental procedures that are surgical in nature and medically necessary.
What Can Medisave Be Used For?
At Ivory Dental Care, you can use your Medisave funds for various surgical dental procedures, including:
Dental Implants: A surgical procedure to replace missing teeth.
Wisdom Tooth Surgery: Removal of impacted or troublesome wisdom teeth.
Surgical Removal of Retained Roots or Fractured Teeth: Extraction of tooth fragments or roots remaining in the gum line.
Gum Surgery (Frenectomy): Surgery to adjust or remove the frenulum in the mouth, which can improve dental function and health.
Non-Eligible Dental Treatments
Medisave cannot be used for non-surgical, cosmetic, or aesthetic procedures. These include:
- Simple tooth extractions (non-surgical)
Non-surgical root canal treatments
Orthodontic treatments like braces or Invisalign
Prosthetic dental work such as crowns, bridges, or dentures
If you have a painful dental abscess, incision and drainage is a Medisave-claimable procedure that relieves infection quickly and prevents it from spreading.

Frequently Asked Question
How To Claim MediSave for Dental Treatments and Procedures
When you book an appointment at Ivory Dental Care, our customer service team will inform you if your treatment qualifies for Medisave claims. Be sure to bring your NRIC for identity verification. If you choose to use your Medisave funds, you’ll need to complete a Medical Claims Authorisation Form to initiate the claim.
On the day of your appointment, make sure to verify your Medisave balance. You can do this by logging into your Singpass account or by presenting a physical copy of your Medisave Statement of Account. This is important to confirm that your account has enough funds for the claim. Once your balance is verified, we will proceed with submitting your Medisave claim. After the claim is processed, you’ll receive a Medisave Claims Statement, keeping you updated throughout the process.
What Happens If My Medisave Is Not Enough?
If your Medisave account doesn’t have enough funds to cover the full cost of the dental procedure, you’ll need to pay the remaining balance upfront.
For example, if your surgery costs $2,000 but your Medisave account only has $800, you would need to pay the full $2,000 at the time of treatment. Afterward, we’ll process the Medisave claim for the $800, and once the claim is completed, the $800 will be deducted from your Medisave account. We’ll then issue a cheque refunding you the $800.
You may also use the Medisave of an immediate family member to help cover your dental costs. However, this is subject to the same Medisave withdrawal limits and requires approval.
Is a Root Canal Procedure Covered By Medisave?
No, root canal treatments are not eligible for Medisave claims as they are not classified as surgical procedures by the Ministry of Health.
Can I Claim Medisave For Getting Braces?
No, Medisave does not cover braces or any other orthodontic treatments. These are considered non-surgical and are generally categorized as cosmetic procedures, making them ineligible for Medisave claims.
Is Tooth Extraction Covered By Medisave?
Medisave only covers surgical tooth extractions. Simple extractions that do not require surgery are not eligible for Medisave claims.
Are Dental Procedures Eligible For Medisave?
Medisave can be used for specific surgical dental treatments, such as wisdom tooth removal and dental implant placement. However, non-surgical treatments like braces are not eligible. For detailed information, refer to the Ministry of Health’s list of approved surgical procedures.
Can Medisave Be Used For Non-surgical Dental Treatments?
Medisave covers only surgical and medically necessary dental procedures, as outlined by the CPF Board. For those with a CHAS card, certain non-surgical treatments may be subsidized. For a full list of CHAS-eligible treatments, please refer to our detailed guide.
What Is The Maximum Amount I Can Claim From Medisave For Dental Procedures?
The claimable amount from Medisave depends on the specific surgical procedure performed, which is assigned a unique surgical code. Your dentist will inform you of the estimated claimable amount based on the Ministry of Health’s predetermined limits after the procedure. For more precise details, refer to the Ministry’s Table of Surgical Procedures.
